Manufacturing is done using the ancient method of forming in sand. We mix sand, molasses and water to make the sand mould and to keep it together.
Once the mould has dried, the metal is melted and poured into the moulds. Once the metal has cooled, the mould is broken and the cast is removed. A new mould must therefore be made for each bell.
A fantastic Swedish craft of which we are proud.
Today, horse bells are still manufactured according to old models, as are ship and mooring bells. The bells are cast in "bell bronze", a mixture of 85% copper and 15% tin. According to the legend, there used to be silver in order to get a finer sounding tone in the bell.
